New Blue Beetle trailer shows off the Scarab’s powers

Jamie Reyes is familiarizing himself with his newfound superpowers in an exciting new Blue Beetle trailer.

The latest trailer, which you can watch above, showcases the impressive abilities of the Scarab and provides a closer look at the formidable insect-like villain, Carapax.

In this DC movie, Xolo Maridueña portrays the eponymous character, who is initially hesitant about being a superhero. However, after unintentionally becoming the host of an ancient alien biotechnology artifact known as the Scarab, Jamie, a recent college graduate, discovers not only a stylish suit of armor but also an array of extraordinary superhuman abilities.

Xolo Maridueña, known for his role in the popular Netflix series Cobra Kai, takes the lead alongside George Lopez as Jamie’s uncle Rudy and Susan Sarandon as Victoria Kord in the upcoming Blue Beetle movie. The film, directed by Angel Manuel Soto, also features Adriana Barraza, Damián Alcázar, Raoul Max Trujillo, Belissa Escobedo, and Bruna Marquezine.

Being a part of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which James Gunn and Peter Safran now oversee as co-CEOs of DC Studios, raises questions about Blue Beetle’s future in the upcoming DC Chapter One: Gods and Monsters plan.

In a recent interview with Total Film magazine, director Soto shed some light on this matter, saying, “We are integrated into the universe, we are part of the world, and we align with the plans they have crafted for the future chapters of the DCEU,” as featured in our Heart of Stone issue.

Blue Beetle is set to hit theaters on August 18, 2023. For more information, be sure to check out our comprehensive guide on new superhero movies and how to watch the DC movies in chronological order.
