After the release of Horizon Forbidden West’s Burning Shores DLC in April, fans speculated that Aloy’s journey was far from over. In May, Jan-Bart van Beek, the studio director, officially confirmed the continuation of Aloy’s adventures.
However, the future of the Horizon series extends beyond a single game. Van Beek expressed his aspirations during a Develop:Brighton talk, revealing that the studio currently has approximately 16 plans in motion. These plans encompass not only future installments but also various exciting developments. “We have a long-term vision for the franchise,” he emphasized.
In essence, Guerrilla Games intends to keep the Horizon universe alive and thriving for a significant duration, providing fans with a wealth of content and experiences to look forward to.
Jan-Bart van Beek further reveals that Guerrilla Games is venturing into the realm of multiplayer gaming, as many might already be aware. This development alludes to the Horizon MMO, which was initially rumored in 2021 and resurfaced in reports last year indicating a collaboration between Sony and South Korean developer NCSoft Corporation.
According to van Beek, the studio’s work on the upcoming multiplayer, cooperative game marks a significant milestone comparable to the creation of the first Horizon title. He describes it as “another massive shift for the studio,” highlighting the challenge of crafting a two-player experience. The team is genuinely enthusiastic about this project.
In a related note, the Horizon series expanded this year with the release of Call of the Mountain, a spin-off title exclusively designed for the launch of PSVR2.
